The republicans are not done yet. They are making great strides in that direction. When they bankrupt (drown in a bathtub) the federal budget, states and local taxes are raised to maintain services, and many of those taxes are very regressive. For example sales tax. Now I hear the republicans want to introduce a national sales tax. They are all about shifting the tax burden.

Obviously you are omitting payroll tax from your "calculation".
