It is our RIGHT. Those like you with so little faith in people that you assume law abiding Americans are really potential murderers with only gun ownership separating them from becoming dead end criminals that will throw someone else's life away along with their own. IF you want to be a good person WITHOUT imposing your pejudices on others, then work to solve WHY people kill each other instead of blaming it on the device. "Making an argument for no meaningful regulation of guns" Be honest. This is another point that I HAVE NOT MADE, and is EXTREMELY FAR FROM REALITY. There are 1,000's of laws on the books. You know it. In fact you have learned there are more than you think through this exchange. "The world is not perfect," That is why I choose to take advantage of our 2nd amendment. Governments are not perfect either, but the anti-gunners want them to be the ONLY ones with guns. "there are no 'safe' guns" Guns now a days are extremely safe. They WILL NOT GO OFF BY THEMSELVES. Period, end of story. It is PEOPLE that are unsafe at times. Focus on education and go after the criminals hard (which we do with gun crimes). The FACT that the kid's grandpa was a law enforcement officer shows that some of these people are not too safe, not that their guns are not safe. Guns (modenrn ones) are extremely safe. And that is a fact. "Which is directly the opposite of what the NRA wants (guns out of the hands of criminals and kids)" This is a flat out lie. And you know it. The NRA preached guns safety better than any organization in the world. Show me one quote that even indicates that the NRA wants guns in the hands of criminals and kids. I can tell that you cannot be convinced of anything, and that your mind is set. But so far you have made quite a few false statements (two in this post alone). And you need to compare a handgun to a nuclear bomb to make your point. Both should give you pause and at least have you re-think your position. I know as a family man that if someone was shooting up the patrons in a restaurant where your kids were eating, you would want an armed law abiding American to step in and stop the situation. At least I am pretty sure of this.
