Well, I have argued for YEARS for a BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT. Frankly, I dont care what programs they cut except for DEFENSE, SOCIAL SECURITY and MEDICARE. Far as I am concerned the FEDERAL govt is too involved in everything anyway.
As to Flat Tax, I am all for it BUT why would you leave mortgage deduction. Today, many people on the lower end of the income stream must RENT and those on the higher PAY CASH. I myself have no mortgage. Just exempt ALL INCOME under a certain base level (I have suggested 17k in the past) and apply the flat tax thereafter. That takes care of lower income people, takes care of middle income people with a mortgage, wont mean much to upper income people but perhaps the flat tax would work out better. jdn
