(IMO, the way politicians in Washington are running away from this issue is suffiecient reason in itself to replace them all.) Throw in interest on the debt (a non-optional payment) and you have just EXEMPTED 85% of ALL federal spending! (So, either you are not serious about cutting spending, or you want to raise taxes....) "As to Flat Tax, I am all for it BUT why would you leave mortgage deduction." I would leave a small and 'reasonable' mortgage deduction (what's 'reasonable'? don't know. under a million or two I guess... but I wouldn't let haggling over this one tax break derail a total overhaul of our corrupt tax system though....) Why? because I believe it does a lot of good for the nation (& because I don't think you could pass a big tax overhaul without it).
