"...There is one point about the Islamofascist ideological compound that is left out . . . and it is a point of genuine conflict between the West and those guys – the role and status of women in society. The Islamists are genuinely hysterical at the loss of masculine control in six or seven critical areas of life that they see implied by the Western social format. Some form or degree of it is implicit in all the religious fundamentalisms.

And . . . the evolving Salafist variant of Islamist fundamentalism seems to have settled on a rejection of democracy in favor of rule by the religiously most learned and observant. That is to say, that Scheuer, whom you quote, [is going too far] in reducing antagonism between Islamists and the West to resolvable political issues, like Israel, etc.,..."

E!! It is so nice to see you here. How are you?

That was a fascinating article about Hitchens and his new belief system, the interplay with the author and Bin Laden's comment about Sweden, which I had not read. I think most of us only saw a brief and heavily edited transcript of Osama's pre-election remarks.

I myself am terrified about the spread of Islam in Europe and America because of the way they treat women and girls. I am not sure what we can do about that. It is a totally different subject from why we really invaded Iraq, and everything that George Bush has done to destroy social progress, of course.

Christopher Hitchens! I used to be such an admirer of his. I especially loved his writings about Sister Teresa, and her culture of death. Now I don't know what to think, except that perhaps he has alcohol poisoning. I do tend to love people who are an inch from totally going off; I think it makes for exciting news television. He disagreed with Joe Scarborough the other night a was really quite forceful about it. I still find Hitchens fascinating, even though he has gone over to the other side. What a pleasant surprise, to find such a nice article posted here!
