I'd guess simply reproduction. Poorer, less educated groups tend to reproduce more, so they win in the end. But this fails to explain why the natives of the Americas, Australia & New Zealand have done much poorer compared to Africans. One interesting tidbit is that Africans are genetically the most diverse of all humans. Seems a stretch, but this might be an advantage.i'm tempted to disagree with you on East Africa, as to timing anyway, but what i know about the place is much less than you One of my Aunts lived there from the mid 1950's through independence but my parents lived there in the 1980's & 1990's. My inlaws are there now. The one group of outsiders that has done OK in africa (with some notable problems here and there) are Indians. IMO, they tend to blend in better than whites, both visually and culturally.an old close friend of mine is as truly mexicano as it is possible to be, he is also clearly african in large part, descendant of a slave who escaped from Tejas My inlaws used to live in Jamaica. Once while visiting them, we were driving along some back road, and a white dude in a beatup pickup flaged us over. He knew my wife's Dad (sold him vegetables from his little farm) but what blew me away was he spoke pidgin, not English. It was amazing. His parents were Germans and he was born and raised in Jamaica, as Jamaican as the next chap, just white, blond haired, and blue eyed.Does Ian Smith still live in Salisbury? AFAIK. He was a good guy IMO. Once met him at a trade show while he was PM of Rhodesia. Regarding disease & Africa. Bilow & I had some discussion on this. He found some interesting links on smallpox strains. But yes, northern Africans would have had some exposure to "european" diseases, and they were more resistant. However, two groups of people in S. Africa, the Hottentots & Bushmen did not seem to have this benefit, and were badly clobbered as a result. I do suspect that african tolerance of tropical illnesses might be a significant factor in their success in other tropical regions.
