None of this has anything at all to do with anyone's political positions. It has to do with what kind of thread this is. It is not a big argument! And I'm not on trial here, and Ionesco isn't, and no one is. Things need to happen in the present, not the past. People can, and do, argue about any subject they would like to. I think that's great. But once you start dragging in people's personalities or insulting their arguments because you didn't agree with their stance on an issue six months ago, it becomes personal, and I'm not interested in moderating a thread like that. And, incidentally, since I am the thread moderator, I do have an opinion about what happens to the other posters on this thread. I do try to stay out of small arguments, but ultimately I will enforce the thread rules if the problem is continual, and dragging posts from here to other threads is not civil behavior. I have no idea why you can shoot from a deer stand or whatever they call them and just slaughter any deer that comes along, and feel proud about it. I don't find that sporting at all; I find it disgusting. Nor do I understand why the lives of humans in a persistent vegetative state are important to you but the lives of healthy wild animal are not. But I would never ever think of dragging that into a discussion I was having with you about Terri Schiavo. It is a totally irrelevant strategy! And ugly. I have said several times that I value human life immensely. I think the most humane thing for Terri Schiavo is that she should go ahead and die. I don't say that because of your weird theory that I only like animals or whatever. I think both animals and humans should be treated humanely. And now I see you are threatening me because like a majority of Americans, including evangelical Christians, I think the best outcome for Terri Schiavo is for her body to die so she can move on to whatever is next in her religious faith? That there is going to be some sort of horrible reaction to me by posters at Feelies simply because I share the majority opinion? That is patently ridiculous. I let the discussion about the hunters being murdered drag on for a long time at Feelies because I am an open person and it seemed like a lot of people wanted to vent. But I ultimately realized that there are a lot of people at SI who cannot comprehend a world where things are complicated, where A AND B might both be true, where someone can be relieved that a bunch of hunters won't kill any more deer but would never ever think that murdering hunters is acceptable, where people can revere human life and still assert that animals have their own lives and do not belong to us to torture and kill at our whim. If you want to live in a world where medical research and logic and reason are not the way you form your opinions, fine. Whatever. But I will ban you unless you conform to the Feelies rules.
