The saddest thing about the Schiavo case is that you don't have to think badly of anybody, to see how it came about.

Michael Schiavo may be (I think he probably is) acting sincerely to do what he believes Terri would have wanted, what he would want from her were their positions reversed. The parents are doubtless acting sincerely on their beliefs that their daughter should be maintained and cared for whatever shape she is in, especially if they don't believe the doctors' diagnoses, whether this is rational or not on their part.

Neither side has to be particular saints or sinners for this situation to have arisen.
