The number one issue in America should be education -- and that should be the main thrust of our foreign policy.

Good point. Consider the bang for the buck radical Islam got from the spread of madrassas.

Does any of our foreign aid money go to providing basic literacy these days? I tend to doubt it.

We live in a country that has been hijacked by a political minority (what Bush calls his "base") and this hard core group keeps the US focused on "its issues" -- issues that are marginal in significance except to a minority of Americans who are promoting their ideology at others expense -- while our long-term interests are seriously threatened.
