Why are you so quick to jump on the Catholic church? There are bad men in all religions and there are bad men in all other walks of life too (boy scouts leaders, teachers, doctors, lawyers and judges). To claim that priests have an exclusivity in abuse is unfair and outright untruthful.

Also, keep in mind that the Catholic church brought civility on all continents of the world. Many missionaries sacrificed their lives to reach out and educate natives everywhere.

Because a priest has an exhalted position, the media and others take special effort to magnify their human weaknesses. I believe I read somewhere that the %age of pedphile priests are far less then the national average. In any case, much has been learned since those 20+ years ago. Today, the church reacts very differently then they did when many of these cases occurred. I know in our own Diocese our Bishop has made it clear, he will turn any such evidence over to the appropriate law enforcement agency. jdn
