It doesn't prohibit such things. But our legislatures have put restrictions on the 2nd Amendment and the courts have backed them. Many of the restrictions are reasonable imo. Some are not (the number of bullets in a pistol, for example).

So basically the legislature is able to take away a constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms? Or at least restrict certain types of weapons. Strict interpretation of the constitution would find that unconstitutional. Therefore I'm not sure that they couldn't add hand guns to the list along with grenades, assault rifles and tanks.

Looks like you have confirmed my hypothesis. Too bad so many are so arrogant and self doubting. Nobody telling you to buy a gun (clearly with your thoughts you should not). You should actually be on suicide watch somewhere if you are not already.

Nothing dark about confronting reality, and suicide is reality in this world. I have no intention of blowing my head off, but 1/4 of all gun deaths in the US is by suicide and 1/4 is by accidents, usually by kids playing with daddy's gun. In fact if you own a gun there is about a 10,000 to one chance that your kid will be killed by your gun as opposed to the midnight prowler that you're arming yourself for.

I know two people that have offed themselves with a firearm. In both cases they were hunters. In both cases they shot themselves in the head with their deer rifles. They did it by using their toe on the trigger. One of them shot himself because he was having marital problems, the other because he didn't have a wife and was lonely.

By the way, I'm not an advocate of suicide. And I'm certainly not suicidal. Both of my friends that did themselves in never let on that anything was bothering them. They seemed very normal to me just days before they did it. It's sad. Suicide is not any solution to life's problems.

If you are going to have guns, and I do have them, you need to be a good steward of them and use and store them properly. Unfortunately most people do not do these things.

Even though I own guns, I support limiting access to firearms. I support registration and licensing of guns and their operators. Too many guns ending up in the hands of kids, and criminals...and it's because they are readily available. When kids are taking guns to school...we need to rethink access to guns.

Would you be against registering firearms and requiring classes and proficiency tests for a gun license? We certainly require drivers licenses, and with good reason.

And who is responsible when a kid takes an adult's gun to school? To me the fault lies in large part with the adult for allowing the kid access to the gun. Hiding it is not enough...kids will find it. You need a lockable gun safe, and or trigger locks.

As a Canadian,I have visited America often. I am constantly amazed by the number of gun-related crimes I hear about. The freedom to bear arms is a complete infringement on the freedom (and right) to feel safe. Yes, I believe the handgun should be banned. It would prevent accidental shootings (when children play or experiment with the gun) and would prevent many intentional shootings also. American's would be safer!

There is too much propaganda from gun enthusiasts about freedom and the right to carry firearms. In fact America would feel freer the fewer people had guns.

Look at the civilized world for examples...

The minority of Americans who own guns have managed to hold the non-gun owning majority hostage. According to the NORC survey numbers, far more Americans favor a ban on handguns (36.6 percent) than own handguns (24.8 percent). This ratio grows even wider in specific regions, such as New York State where 58.8 percent support a handgun ban while only 10.9 percent report having a handgun in the home—a more than five to one ratio. Also, New England shows 46.5 percent backing a handgun ban and only 16.5 percent of households containing a handgun. Perhaps more significantly, in California, our most populous state and a bellwether for political trends, the 36.9 percent of the voters who want a handgun ban considerably outnumber the 22.6 percent who live with access to a handgun.

Too bad there was no data on how much of a assh*le you are:)
Maybe next year..
