Howy I hope Goldsheet Bob comes back soon as I asked him once about this or he posted to me about it. He had a good explain for why the oil/gold theory may not work.

Bob???

Thanks for your reply, Howie. The low ratio between gold and oil prices is hardly an argument for the existence of a gold bull. Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't be without my exposure to gold and gold stocks, but listening to Embry this morning, I found it difficult to understand his enthusiasm for this under-performing asset class.

They used to mine gold profitably at $35 per ounce, now it needs.... what ? Has the gold price kept pace with inflation over the years ? Where's the justification for believing a "gold bull" exists ?

I gotta agree with tyke here Howy... I keep hearing about this ratio... I mean Precther could be right <ng> The difference so far is gold has been a one trick pony basically... a USD event... OIL OTOH has been rising regardless of currency....The case for gold following oil if oil hits 100 is the same that says oil gold SB higher oil relative right now... I hope in a hundred years they don't study this in some economics class discussing how the ratio hit an all time low of 2.5 <ng>

That being said
Go Gold I've a lot of miners....

a negative harbinger... investorshub.com
while the economist calls for oil to stay high... Anyone remember the last Economist oil prediction ... YIKES!!

How is gold doing anyway ? investorshub.com
How is oil doing anyway... ? These oil charts were posted around Christmas 2003 ... hence the commentary... then it was mostly a USD affair... unlike today...
