If the president of Harvard is a conservative, he won't remain president for long. Hence the reason why he had to apologize profusely for his "lapse in judgement." Having worked under both GOP and Dem administrations, Mr. Summers tends to be more conservative than he is liberal. However, his worst trait is that he's pretty insensitive particularly to people he perceives as lesser than him. As an example, in 1991, he wrote a memo that suggested dumping first world, toxic wastes into third world countries........a proposal that seems more fitting for a conservative agenda. In fact, he has a history of putting his foot in his mouth."Prior to coming to Treasury, Summers served as chief economist for the World Bank. In that post, back in December 1991, he wrote an internal memo regarding how the toxic wastes of the industrial world should be dumped on the less developed world. The memo was leaked to environmental activist Jim Vallette, then with Greenpeace, who made sure it went public. The memo is a chilling example of a mindset that may be common, if not always visible, in the halls of power." gsreport.com Which only supports my view further, that the liberal establishment has taken over academia and will not tolerate any conservative ideology, especially within their own ranks. Harvard believes it is above labels like liberal or conservative. They wanted someone who would shake things up......something they do from time to time. Summers is doing exactly what Harvard wanted. In a few years, he will be another Harvard footnote. You see liberals are not nearly as intolerant to conservative ideas as conservatives are to liberal ideas. After all, liberals are progressives. By definition, they learn from things they don't understand and incorporate the new learning into their huge body of knowledge. Its one of the reasons why I am very proud to be a liberal! ;~) ted
