Actually retired greyhounds are very popular as pets. Although there are not enough homes for all of them, which means a lot of them are killed, often brutally. Winning and losing greyhounds are kept in crates at all times except for brief periods 4-6 times a day when they are let out to relieve themselves and get a bit of exercise. They are often fed raw meat contaminated with pesticides and diseases under the mistaken belief that raw meat makes them run faster.
