we are left with little choice when one party doesn't offer alternatives.

Mike, I think that the current political parties should be trashed, and have it where people can join a group that most depicts their own ideology. The parties should be named conservative, liberal, and moderate, giving a choice of three ways to vote. There probably should be a radical party, but doubt that anyone would fess up to being a radical.
