It's funny you would say that, because I have no interest in "validating" atheism (or homosexuality)- I'm much more interested in validating individual freedom and choice. My interest is in including all children, even those who don't want to take an oath, or swear they believe in God (for whatever the reason), or lie about their sexuality. And it does "good" to protest the boy scouts if you define "good" as society becoming more tolerant (as I do). "Everybody benefits and nobody gets hurt" in regard to the boy scouts is demonstrably not true. Some people do not benefit and some people do get hurt- people in the minority, but still, people. You also might want to think about this "Even those of you who eschew the Boy Scouts benefit, because they teach moral values that make for better behavior all around. " "Better" is a relative term. When they teach that it is ok to discriminate against people who are homosexual, that (imo) isn't better. The irony is that pedophiles are already in the boy scouts- they aren't going to declare themselves (just like Catholic priests who are pedophiles don't take out an ad about it). If people treat the boy scouts as a "safe" place, that's probably a huge mistake. Homosexuals who are openly gay, and want to be leaders, whether they have children or not, are probably unlikely to be molesters. Molesters are secretive, and likely to blend in and look as "moral values" worthy was you could wish.
