Ha! That is typical Silicon Valley snobbery. I worked in San Jose for many years and then moved out to the East Coast. I can tell you that I work as many or more hours than I used to, in part because I have to keep East Coast AND West Coast hours now. Then add to that the upswing of outsourcing to India and I have to keep all sorts of crazy hours. Believe me, Silicon Valley isn't the only place programmers and their managers have to work long hours. The only problem is that now we are all doing it for lower salaries and don't have options that are worth crap.
