Our military spending is obscene. If we backed off to the levels of our main rivals, we could afford universal health care or we could halve everyone's taxes.

globalsecurity.org

The above figures don't include the war in Iraq. Most Americans have no idea how much more we spend compared to the rest of the world.

Eisenhower's most prophetic words when he retired:

The only thing American has to fear...(my words ) is the Military Industrial Complex....(HIS)

After the only thing we have to fear is fear itself... these take precedence... Astronomical numbers in defense..It's not defense. It's ..imho...aggression.

60 Minutes did a feature last night on the distribution of Homeland Security spending. It's a political game again. Every little hamlet wants a piece of the pie... MONEY. AND they rationally defend the slice they get by saying, well he terrorists could strike here. Who can deny it even in a town with 1500 people in the middle of Iowa.

What a mess...

Military spending is out of control. We are focusing our resources in the wrong areas, while going deeper in debt each year.

>>
According to an article I read over the weekend, the total military expense this year will be >$527 Billion, which turns out to be more than all other nations combined will spend on military funding for 2005........
