I trade with Fidelity and they offer support for my Blackberry (which is also my cell phone). You get access to a simplified menu that gives you quotes, trades, etc. Works for me when I'm on the road and don't have my laptop handy.

I had a Blackberry through Schwab back in 2000 for the very purpose you describe. It worked pretty well, but the coverage wasn't great - none east of Portland, ME. South midstate Pennsylvania (Gettysburg) was a problem also. The Blackberry allowed trading, and got a limited set of news sources.

I think that Schwab bought all of the Blackberries back and issued "web enabled phones" in their place. I just Googled - "web enabled phone" "stock trading" - and got hundreds of hits...names like Deloitte, DLJ, etc. I find it a little hard to believe that a major brokerage today would not offer trading over web enabled phones.

I am in the market myself.

Get a PC Card with an Unlimited Plan from Cingular

or Verizon. You will pay about 80.00/month, but you'll have all day access and you stick it in your laptop, which is a bigger screen. At the end of the Summer, cancel your contract and pay the 175.00--200.00 cancellation fee. At that point your 3 mos. of Summer Mobile Trading Costs have averaged out at about 440.00--which is less than buying a new, fat, large, PDA--with it's own monthly fee and contract.

Best,

LP
