Re: Even with overall excellent earnings and revenues AMAT HAS DONE NOTHING but trend down for 5 years

To be accurate, AMAT trended down for about 2 years and had been trending up since, albeit weakly. And FWIW, AMAT is certainly NOT ALONE in this as you seem to suggest, quite disingenuously I might add.

Re: and the company decides on a 3c dividend... not enough to keep large investors interested

That measly(as you imply) 3 cent dividend amounts to almost a quarter of a billion dollars annually. Do you honestly expect a company in a cyclical business to hand out a billion dollars only to pull back the dividend during rough times? Surely large investors would love that! LOL.

RE: "...growth with stock price appreciation that was distributed as a "dividend" to investors in the form of a stock split."

The stock split because the price went up. Investors like price appreciation and, I guess, some like you think splits are a "dividend". Will you mow my lawn each week if I promise to give you 2 5 dollar bills for each 10 dollar bill you present? That is a 100% bill "dividend". Certainly, that is worth the effort a mowing takes.

RE: "...so exactly when will that next AMAT stock split
take place?"

The next 2-1 stock split will occur when the price of an AMAT share hits $60. When will it hit $60, when annual sales hit $16B. Earnings will be about $4B (25% net margin), EPS will be about $2.40, and the PE will be about 25. Will AMAT be able to almost double last years sales in 3-4 years or even 5? The answer is in future semi industry growth rates, rates of equipment utilization by the industry, AMAT's market penetration, and AMAT's positions in new markets.
