I agree with your points. Still, care is advised. Too many on the left demonize making a profit. Those on the radical right have their own set of economic sins as well, but profit is about the simplest really good mechanism for economic activity. I am more inclined to tolerate regulation, or other controls when short-term dynamics are at play. Whenever significant timelags exist in a system, such things can happen.

WRT better transparency. I'm thinking about things like the round-trip trades of the energy Co's in CA, as well as similar round-trip sales of goods & services between dot coms in the internet bubble. I'd like to see third parties (the public) be able to examine that level of detail in pretty much real time. CEO's would wail at the level of examination, but if one is allowed to print money (stock) then I think the business should be quite transparent. The downside is that competitors have access to the transparency as well. As long as the competitor is also public, it is a relatively level playing field, but with new business dynamics.
