Is there perhaps a more charitable definition of these playrights' works? I have not been that interested in plays, even modern ones (although I loved studying Waiting for Godot). Do they (or did they--I believe Pinter is still alive) consider themselves part of the Theatre of the Absurd? Or is that a title that people who didn't care for them gave them?

I am asking because I can think that in a godless universe human existence can have lots of meaning and purpose. I don't understand how communication breaks down in a godless universe, necessarily.
