"Alas, Babylon" is a classic of the genre.
amazon.com
"An extraordinary real picture of human beings numbed by catastrophe but still driven by the unconquerable determination of living creatures to keep on being alive."

I have only read "On the Beach" of the following five. It's a Nevil Shute classic.

* Earth Abides by GEORGE R. STEWART
* The Rift by Walter J. Williams
* On the Beach by NEVIL SHUTE
* The New Madrid Run by Michael Reisig
* Last Ship by WILLIAM BRINKLEY

Here is another list you might explore. amazon.com

Another list of apocalypse novels:

google.com

I have read six on the list, my favorite being “Earth Abides” by George Stewart. I have probably read it four times and have probably gifted ten copies of the book. I am a big fan – one of a small minority it seems – of Kevin Costner’s movie of “The Postman.”

The John Wyndham novels are excellent.
