I just completed a semi-long post that my computer ate....and that I dont have the energy to rewrite right now. However, I'd like to bring attention to the follow table.

NAND Production
1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q
70nm 5% 20% 30%
90nm 85% 80% 70% 60%
4Gb 5% 45% 70%
2Gb 75% 75% 40% 15%

Two primary points....

- The ramp of 70nm for Samsung is going very slowly. Sandisk will nearly match their output of 70nm during 2005.

- Samsung's MLC production is starting to ramp at 90nm but to get to 8Gb MLC, they will need 63nm production (70nm will be SLC only). Sandisk's 8Gb MLC chip uses 70nm. Clearly, Sandisk's design expertise is still going to be a big help with MLC.

Overall, the manufacturing gap between Sandisk and Samsung is nearly gone....
