My position is if Banks were more careful about issuing credit cards there never would have been a problem in the first place. This just encourages them to be even more lenient. I know that if they dont lose something like 6% they feel they arent being aggressive enough in the CC policy. jdn

If you are dumb enough to misuse a product over and over again, maybe there is something wrong with the product?

Ever consider that there is something wrong with "you", because "you" are consistently misusing a product ?

we can protect them from loan sharks and maybe some of these bank sharks.

No we can't. What we can do is "criminalize" legitimate high risk lenders and drive them out of business. Then criminals get into the business. Instead of using the court system to collect money owed them, the sharks go to underground money and use "Chili Palmer" types to collect.

People who have wrecked their credit and want to borrow have to accept different conditions than those who haven't. Higher interest and stiffer payback restrictions. If they can't get a legitimate source because we have run legitimate businessmen out of the business by restricting interest rates and terms, they are forced by the the government's intervention to go to the Gambino family for money.
