the 3% is their money not mine - I dont usually get a cash discount of 3% if I choose not to use a card.

What i like to do most is take their balance transfer offers at 0% with no transaction fees and put that money in ING for a year at 3%

I've done the same several times; however, once I inadvertently used the card and then discovered that I'd have to pay interest on all purchases until i paid off the original balance transfer.
Also, I only use cards that pay me a rebate, even on cash advances at the grocery store. I've found that if I try to cancel a card, the issuer will often offer even better terms than I'm getting on the cards I use the most.
A few years ago, cards were even offering rebates on balance transfers. I was able to kite a $10,000 balance from one card to another for about 6 months, each time getting between one and two hundred dollars in rebates.
