The boundaries on academic freedom within universities need to be better understood; and the need for freedom of speech outside the university needs to be more appreciated.

What I am after is academic freedom for the Profs, and free speech for the students. Academia is quite obvious in their desire for free speech for the Profs on the left, and limits on speech for the students. They are not getting away with the student limits easily anymore. Every time they try limit speech for students, they find a letter from FIRE in their mailbox, and have to back off.
