Short term, those indicators have GOT to turn around.

Oil broke below $50 a barrel today. The oil bulls should keep in mind that higher prices encourages conservation and alternative energy sources.

There have been some disappointing warnings, but there have been a lot of companies reporting good results too.

The dollar is still fairly low, encouraging exports and discouraging imports and foreign travel (although foreigners seem still quite willing to underwrite our trade deficit; if that changes, it's trouble).

Looking more closing at that Dow chart, it is possible to find 12-month or shorter periods in which 17% gains were made, so there is precedent for what you say. The economy overall does seem to be doing better, so it could happen again. I need to look more closely.

PnF shoots a downward break through the bearish resistance line.
