The reason we pay taxes SHOULD BE to provide the government with revenue. But shouldn't we try to do this in the most efficient way possible? Compare the amount collected in death taxes against the $billions in time and capital we spend in estate planning. I don't think you can make a convincing argument that this is an acceptable bargain.

No there are other reasons at work here beyond simply raising revenue for government purposes.

After paying the Fed Tax, AND all the taxes that WA State has in lieu of a State Tax (this means their taxes continue to lead the country overall because they tax everything), including Sales Taxes, property taxes, business taxes for our own business, etc etc etc....Over 50% of our income is taxed....and then we add Social Security taxes.....

IF we manage to save enough for our old age, and hopefully get to spend some of it on fun for a change....I'll be danged if I want to give the Government even more money than I have already...
