People that want to discuss issues contradiction need moderation and I think a suggestion of "moderation is censorship" is simply right, AND it can end up stifling discussion if applied AT ALL. There is no balance that works- -except for those unable to defend their views. In the case of cosmic, he refused to even answer a challenge to the technical knowledge he himself claimed he had and I had to supply the beginnings of an answer.

There are people on SI of both sides of the political spectrum who just want to fight and you can find many of them on the thread that post came from. Cosmic claims to have friends with different political views than his and X's. If anyone believes that, I have some bridges for sale. The 2 Clinton administrations had done nothing but polarize opinion in this country and that has been to the benefit of the lawless rulers who engaged in exactly the sort of behavior he criticizes. What we have in this country is not a political philosophy because a government is not a political philosophy; it is a government.

Usenet was not ruined; it was replaced by the web. cosmic said "I'm almost ready to stop posting on SI in general". One can only hope. There are stereotyped villain and heroes because there are posters here who absolutely insist on their right to act in outrageous manners and are outraged when some takes notice or remembers later. His "wife" is a prime example.

Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it and right is right, no matter who does it. Democrats better realize that and embrace it.

If there is to be a coalition to be formed that can keep the country safe from the Mass. Mafia, then it will come from us.

He said "I've wasted a better part of a week defending scientific thought and principles". He did? I set him a mathematical/physical problem and he wouldn't touch it.

"Thread, anyone care to comment? - Holly"

What? Comment on his left wing propaganda that he has bought
into lock, stock & barrel?

As usual it's complete poppycock, but he believes it with
every fiber of his soul. Unfortunately it has no basis in
fact or reality.

Or were you interested in his POV on moderating threads?

As far as moderating threads goes, it's rather simple. Make
it clear that civil discourse is paramount. Insist that folks
stick to reasonable, rational & logical debate.

And more importantly insist that unsubstantiated opinions are
not welcome. If your opinions cannot be supported by facts
from credible sources that can be independently verified;
those opinions should not be welcome.

That eliminates the AS types. When extremists, propagandists
& unhinged rabble is absent, civil, objective & reality based
discourse is more likely to occur.

i don't have the time or inclination to dissect it point by point, but all in all i would say it was a very good rant

(i always like a good rant when i see one, and can usually disassociate the 'sermon' from the 'preacher' <g>)
