"Someday we are going to get it all together." We dont have to get it all together to have great presidents. Lincoln, FDR, and imo Reagan are good examples of that. Some delegate as in your clinton example, some have good instincts, and some just grow in the job. I think we need a third party because the republicans in the name of orthodoxy are committing suicide and the dems have already done much the same thing with Screaming Dean as head of party. Who could lead a third party that we could support Mary? mike

Ronald Reagen was a nice guy, had good intentions, but he was not the smartest guy on the block. He may not have been a genius, and he may not have projected an intellectual air, but he was far more intelligent than many on the left, or even the center (and probably a few on the right) give him credit for being. Its one of the most frequent tactics I see from the left. If you find a conservative leader who doesn't project intellectualism, keep calling him stupid until it can stick in the minds of many. We saw it with Reagan, we are seeing it now with Bush (who makes it easy with his mangled pronunciations). I think in many cases its not just a tactic, they come to truly believe it, like some of the highly partisan right think Clinton was a murderer and think that many on the left are traitors. It would be normal for the most partisan to make such comments, the most partisan on the right also put down the left in any way they can, but what seems different is that practically all of the left seems to use this tactic, you don't just get it from the hard left, you get it from the center left.
