"I assume she means a birth certificate or the like."

Not really. There isn't any record, letter, report or anything much at all that mentions him except for the Bible. The Roman Empire was all through that region. The walking on water, raising the dead, feeding of the multitudes, etc, etc would be headline items in any culture. I guess you can blame it all on the liberal media not covering the story, but...

Remember that what became the Catholic Church took over the Roman Empire. They would have loved to've gotten their hands on any such documentation.

FWIW, I think there actually was an individual who preached what Jesus is supposed to have preached about 2k years ago in that region. But some of his followers, as True Believers are wont to do, embellished the story somewhat. Personally I don't think his message or teachings needed any embellishing. But PR and spin are not a modern invention...

Ted, The woman[atheist] said there is no secular evidence that Jesus existed. I assume she means a birth certificate or the like. Do you know if that is that true? TIA.

I don't know why the atheist requires a birth certificate when there are literally dozens of first-hand accounts of Jesus' existence. After all, even in modern times a baby born in a feeding trough (a.k.a. manger) isn't going to have a birth certificate.

I'm pretty sure there is secular evidence Jesus existed... the writings of Josephus, a Roman historian/soldier around the late 1st century AD wrote about him quite a bit, AFAIK.
