for oil to go away, oil needs to cost more.

While it's cheep, we'll consume it.

Worst case: we get conned into paying for converted petrochemicals, thinking that it's better and uses less oil. When, in fact, we use just as much as we did before.

Our energy needs NEED to be supplied from above ground instead of below.

If they are being supplied from below, then we are releasing energy stored millions of years ago into our world today.
