"Meanwhile, those who are horrified at the killing of unborn children are told to shut up and be more "tolerant" of the opposing viewpoint"

The issue isn't black and white though. Lines have to be drawn, but where? If you do it on the basis of potential for life, do you outlaw male masturbation? Or forcebly impregnate ovulating women who aren't planning on conceiving? What if it becomes possible to regress any given cell to a stem cell level and grow embryos from that? Do people get arrested for clapping their hands? Or losing weight, if adult stem cells in adipose tissue can be turned into embryos?

And then there is the argument that my wife ran across when researching a tangential issue in an ethics class. Having a philosopher in the house can be interesting as long as you resign yourself to losing arguments...

You wake up in the morning and find yourself back to back in bed with an unconscious violinist (who) has been found to have a fatal kidney ailment ... the Society of Music Lovers ... kidnapped you, and last night the violinist's circulatory system was plugged into yours, so your kidneys can be used to extract poisons from his blood as well as your own ... To unplug would be to kill him. But never mind, it's only for nine months.

Rather than retreat behind the false veneer of "tolerance," you might want to try and defend your belief that the fetus could ever be considered a tumor to be removed.

Stop putting words in my mouth, I've never written anything like that.

Elroy, The problems arise when people like you start imposing your beliefs and value systems on people that don't consider a fetus the same as a child that has been born.

Ah yes, once again I'm the one "imposing" my beliefs upon others. Meanwhile, those who are horrified at the killing of unborn children are told to shut up and be more "tolerant" of the opposing viewpoint that life begins whenever the heck is convenient.

Yes, you are the one imposing your views. No one is going up to a pregnant woman and telling her she should abort but you are going up to a pregnant woman and telling her she should not abort.

Again, you are invading her right to privacy.

I am not a proponent for abortion and I hope I never have to be part of the decision making that goes into making such a choice. However, I am a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose.
