Raymond, I think you have pretty realistic view on alternatives. I will disagree on fusion - I believe that technology has advanced and has moved closer to solution, but I am not an expert. If you asked me for a wild guess on what alternatives will be used and how, I would say that we will switch to natural gas -> coal -> nuclear fission -> nuclear fusion. The arrows indicate time scale with some overlap. Other ones I think will be marginal. But this is again a guess, I am no expert. For example, I wonder what are the costs and EROEI of geothermal and what is the scalability. It is probably covered in your books. :) Not very alternative Jurgis
