Can't you schedule a practice?

I practiced trout fishing instead.

Even though I didn't get a single bite, I had peace, quiet,
and fun exploring.

Today was the first time I wore my waders at this spot.
I walked around searching for fish and potential holding
spots for them. The added bonus was that I was able to
retrieve a bunch of lures, bobbers, and other ornaments
hanging from the outstretched tree branches on the opposite
side.

The kids' tackle boxes are now restocked.

It was cool.

I got over to the far side of the stream where previously I
could only imagine what the submerged structure looked like.

There were a few large boulders and pockets where I thought
I'd see fish. Maybe in the future.

I made some mental notes of undercut banks, and deep pools.

I ventured upstream to areas where the cover was too thick
for landlocked fisherman to angle.

Then I had one of those nervous moments.

Each step was getting a bit deeper so I attempted to veer
towards the bank. Unfortunately this was an area that must
have caught much of the silt and mud during the snowmelt run-off.

My foot went down about 12 inches. Then it grabbed onto my
ankle. So I stepped forward with my other foot and it
grabbed hold of that one too. But even deeper.

My mind flashed to old black and white movies of Tarzan where
someone gets caught in the quicksand.

As I wriggled I would sink a tiny bit deeper.

The water level seemed to get a bit closer to my armpits and
the top of my waders.

I could feel my heart take a few big pounds.

I decided to take a deep breath and try to relax myself.

It didn't work too well.

Next I decided to take a deep breath and pull my friggin foot
as hard as I could. My stiff leg sunk a little bit more.

But finally the suction broke and my foot came out.

Whew!

I worked the other one free and eventually made my way back
to the rocks.

Twas a learning experience.

Twas fun.

Twas way cool exploring this section of the creek.

Next time I venture further up to that peaceful bend that kept
calling my name.

Mr. Fatty Fat Fish Face lives there.

I'm certain of it.
