anything that kept them apart in marriage was viewed as sinful If that's the reasoning, how come the Rhythm method is okay? If the Church were just pro-procreation, that would be consistent. But they are not. They are pro-procreation but also rather anti-sex, so abstinence always seems to trump procreation. Even inside marriage. If you're really pro-procreation then you want everybody to marry and have kids. You don't promote celibacy as a better choice. That's the position of Judaism, btw. There are no Orthodox Jewish bachelors.

Basically if you are engaged in a sex act that is not "open to procreation", and/or is not in the context of a marriage, the church views the action as incorrect. " So what about the offspring of an illicit union or how do we treat the bastard. (g). When the moral tenets of the church are broken lets say by kids having sex, is it better for them to get to contraception in order to prevent conception? If i were a priest i would have a tough time with that one, although as a citizen the answer seems clear or enough. Just say no and if you forget contracept. This is just an intellectual excercise on my part to gain more understanding so please bear with me.
