There are more deer now than 100 years ago. Hunting and hunters are responsible for more habitat preservation and maintenance than all the PETA in the world.

A good example is what happened in Africa after elephant hunting was eliminated. The economy built around that collapsed, and was replaced by ivory poachers and people with AK-47s. I'm not interested in elephant hunting, but the elephants would be better off with it than with poaching.
