Several million unemployed and underemployed Americans would beg to differ. As would the 2 billion or so humans living on less than $1 per day worldwide. All they ask is a fair deal.

Kevin Phillips, in his excellent book "Wealth and Democracy" provides a very cogent counterargument to your "winner takes all" view of the world.

Redistribution to the rich, as is practiced today in the U.S. is the way to destroy society.

I rank extreme capital concentration as a much greater threat to humanity than the concern of the handful of people at the top of the game that they'll lose their imperious status if life is too fair.
