Would you sell your country?

Would you sell a few hundred acres of swamp that some loco developer thinks he can make money off of, and is offering you 10 times the most you thought you could ever see?

That's more like the question to the Arab landowners of Palestine. There was no such thing as Palestine on the map before the Brits defined the Mandate in 1918 - 1922. It was a part of 3 different Ottoman wilayets. Palestine was a country only to the Zionists before 1948. To the Arabs, it was just a backwater. That's why the "effendi class" all packed their cars and ran away to Cairo and Damascus in 1947.

A country is an idea, punto. The Palis were latecomers to that game.
