her first article didn't ring true to me... it was right there though, in the first sentence (the problem with the statistics, i mean) Racial minorities are being prosecuted under federal death penalty law far beyond their proportion in the general population or the population of criminal offenders. lies, damn lies, and statistics <g> a casual, less than astute reader might not pick up on flawed analysis because of the inaccurate 'set' comparisons... of course, who needs astute readers on the thread, when you and i are here to disabuse... :)

And other links show other manipulations of the statistics. What they all show, though, is that the penalties are not applied equally- even the Duke link showed that, although not in the way other people show the inequalities. Now that gentleman in the Duke link says he doesn't really mind the fact that it is not applied equally - it's not enough to ruin the death penalty for him(when we look at the victim's race)- do you feel that way too? Note please, the racial stuff is not why I oppose the death penalty, but just as with the "innocents are executed" thing, I find it interesting, and disturbing- and I also find it unlikely that we don't kill a few innocents (not that it makes any difference to why I oppose the death penalty).
