I think that the reason that Kerry did not address the Swift Boat attack, was that sometimes if you lend creedence to such an attack it some how makes it more legitimate.

His strategy was to ignore it and hope that it went away. But the group was well funded, and all of the guys that made statements about Kerry were involved in Republican politics. And of course the whole smear campaign was bankrolled by one of the biggest Bush supporters.

It was a failed strategy, because these guys were so well funded. They aired a ton of spots...and that hurt Kerry. He was caught on his heels. He finally countered with the some spots by Rassmussen, but too little too late.

Politics is dirty business....you have to be willing to roll with the pigs if you ever expect to get to the tough.
