I won't pretend to be as astute as most participants on this forum, that said, am I the only one who recalls Turner inheriting an equally tangled mess, in short an untenable
handicap, inherited from his predecessor. The Libs of cour
se have the unspoken rule that the PM will alternate French/English heritage. In my memory the Anglo PM always gets an anchor as a send off. No excuses here, just an observation.
