Isolationism is policy based on the belief that we can act in isolation from the interests of others.

We can isolate ourselves by withdrawing inside our own borders.

Or we can isolate ourselves by unilaterally invading other countries, and refuse to participate in efforts to address serious global issues such as climate change.

The dominant strain in current US policy is isolationism of this second variety. You might want to pretend otherwise -- but the USA is not isolated from the world and from world opinion by chance -- we are isolated as a matter of policy.
