Bush is trying to kill the 6% businesses pay for all of their employees. That tax savings would then be translated into more lump sum pay for the CEO.

Social Security taxes shouldn't have a cap. Since the income numbers are so skewed (CEOs can make 500-600 times what their base level worker makes), maybe the rate itself can be reduced across the board.

A flat rate is still regressive but it's a step in the right direction.

Why aren't Dems fighting for this? It's a populist issue and should resonate well with the heartland. It also makes absolutely clear that Republicans do not represent the majority of Americans but are a radical fringe party.

>I'm sure there's a magic number, I don't know what it is. You could cover the shortfall by getting rid of the cap as well. But either of those is "raising taxes"<<

Yes. I like that idea of the floating cap. This isn't rocket science u know. :)

>>On the other hand, Bush is proposing that we start paying out SS benefits to Mexicans that work in the US. But he doesn't mention that when he talks about fixing SS<<

Well we should. The people u are bankrupting by not paying for green card workers is the people who provide the basic services to keep them healthy and in the work force....i.e. doctors, physical therapist, social workers, psychologist other professionals et al.

You have Medicaid (MediCal) recipients, legal green card holders, who may or may not be working under the table....and they get hurt at work...and it's seasonal work so nobody pays for their injury that keeps them from doing much of anything....they can't afford to pay for a 50 dollar doctor visit at the clinic. and they feel bad about not being able to pay for the 50 dollars that they owe the doctor. so they stay on the welfare train because nobody helping them to become a contributor to society and pay their FICA tax....that they really have no problem paying their portion..,,but they are so worried about paying for their car insurance and DMV fees that went up because they had an accident....or got busted for a DUI....which they can't pay either....
