I enjoyed that McCabe and MM too, although the characters were not very admirable. I guess what I liked about it was its dark moodiness.

BC stands in for a lot of US locations, primarily I think because Canada knows how to cut costs. Kevin Costner made "Open Range" in Canada, thereby saving 25 million dollars.

I could go on and on, but other priorities beckon.
