You are welcome ionesco,

After I posted that article, I realized I shouldn't have had that link in the same post where I commented on your wonderful experience at the "Laundry". But I had read some stuff here on SI about Agent Orange and then my wife had just reminded me of the anniversary of the death of our friend so it was heavy on my mind but it was still inappropriate on my part to mix the two subjects. I am sorry.

But moving on, we watched 'Hotel Rwanda' last night and that's heavy on my mind too. What a tragedy but what a victory for the human spirit of an individual and many other individuals I am sure. I think all people that are so against the UN should watch that film. Because if there was broad support here and around the world for an international police force, these type of tragedies could be nipped in the bud. We need one IMO, because there will always be despots out there and international action is required to put them down. Doing it unilaterally by ANYONE only leads to charges that it was 'politically and self-interest' motivated .

Anyway, to stop the next 'Hotel' movie being made, this area should be looked at closely by the international community.

Human Rights Concerns

Over 70,000 people are believed to have lost their lives since the conflict in Darfur, Sudan erupted in February 2003. Systematic human rights abuses have occurred by all parties involved in the conflict, but primarily by the Sudanese government and government-backed Janjawid militia. Over 1.5 million civilians have been internally displaced by the conflict and 200,000 have sought refuge in neighboring Chad. The United Nations has appointed an Independent Commission of Inquiry and the African Union has established a presence in the country to monitor the situation. Secretary General Irene Khan led a delegation to Khartoum and Darfur September 13-21, 2004. See below for detailed information on the delegation's findings.
