Normally I would agree with you on that, but this time I think it is more about confidence. "would Harper just kneel to Washington on softwood lumber like the rest have been doing, is a big question, if he can answer it well maybe he'll make a leader we can be proud of, for a change" Precisely why it is about confidence. Harper is a politician, many are frequently known to promise one thing, do another. Based on what I have seen and heard so far, even if he "could answer it", I doubt I would have the confidence that he would be sincere. Not to diminish the softwood dispute in any way, it purely sucks, but far more damage could be done on other issues, imo. If I wanted to be part of the US, I would have moved there 20 years ago. Hell, I turned down a pretty decent offer two years ago. Took me all of 2 seconds to arrive at a flat -NO. My biggest problem with him was his comment that we should have joined our southern neighbors against Iraq. It was clear to any thinking person that the "facts" were bogus and the war was going to proceed no matter what. Either he was just taking the normal opposition stance and going against the ruling party to gain political mileage, or he firmly believed it to be the correct thing to do. Neither reason is acceptable for me, so I just wouldn't be able to trust him. " it's a matter of picking the lesser evil for most of us, I fully agree, and it's a shame to think the current political crop is the best we have to offer. On voting day, whether this summer or next year, I will pick what I perceive to be the lessor of the evils.
