"If everyone else is doing it, and it is not against the law, does that make it right?"

So, "yes" is what I gather from your response.

In our culture the major group is the Federal Government. They have rules and principles to reflect ethical ideas common to western culture.

Ideas such as:
-power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely
-might makes right
-5% owns 95% of the wealth, and this is the way it should be.

If the law is ethics, then lawyers must be the most ethical profession, right?

Eventually it ends in the family and the individual.

Ends in what? That is my question. So many acts are not illegal, yet still don't seem like an ethical thing to do. We are back to everyone having their own equally valid and differing set of rules.
