Surely you can forgive someone with my lack of exposure to those arcana for concluding that Israel having just conducted a high profile hostage rescue is evidence of their being recognized as having the capacity for hostage rescue. And surely you can forgive the commentators of the time for having concluded and reported the same. And surely you can forgive us for having the impression that the Israelis, since they offered the Germans resources, actually had suitable resources to offer, regardless of what they were called and how they were organized. And surely you can forgive us for not caring whether or not the Israelis had organized that capacity into specialized hostage rescue teams. This has nothing to do with forgiveness. Reading your statement above, I conclude you still don't get it. When the Arab terrorist attack occurred in Munich in 1972, Israel had not just concluded a high profile hostage rescue (as you stated above). The Entebbe hostage rescue was 4 years later in 1976. It was accomplished by an Israeli unit that was formed in 1974, 2 years after Munich. Your comment above about commentators at the time (1972) basing arguments on a (then) demonstrated Isreali hostage rescue capability are a bald faced lie. Pure BS. Insisting repeatedly that the Germans should have used the non-existent Israeli hostage rescue team in 1972 was and remains your key error. Assuming that any Israeli force would be superior to what the Germans had, because they volunteered is an insult to both. It was Israelis at risk. Israelis volunteered to take the risk to rescue them. This is SOF. When the going gets tough, SOF guys volunteer. The offer surprised no one. But that offer alone does not make it the best course of action. Note that Germans were at risk too and it was in Germany. I'll leave you with one other tidbit that makes your continuous argument to use a non-existent Israeli force most ludicrous. Guess which of the world's countries,in 1972, had the most Counter-Terror Operations experience and the only designated and trained Counter-Terror Force that I knew of? The answer. Germany. Germany's Counter-Terror Task Force had been battling the Red Brigades terrorist gang for years. They had oodles of experience and willingly shared it with many other countries after 1972. By 1975, (the year before Entebbe) the Baader Meinhof gang had been wiped out. In 1972, immediately after Munich, this German unit was reformed into a larger unit known as GSG-9 (<Bundes>Grenzschutzgruppe 9). They were and are respected around the world for their expertise and courage. you've turned your expertise into one big red herring... Here on the outside, where I sit, the question is not whether Israel had yet formed specialized teams designed for hostage rescue but simply whether they had a recognized capacity for hostage rescue, as I asserted. For those of us on the outside, not encumbered with your detailed knowledge, that's pretty easy to assess. ROTFLMAO. I get it. My expertise based on first hand knowledge is inferior to your phony arguments based on an incident that you read about that occurred on another continent, 4 years after the fact. My expertise may really encumber me. But I thank God, I don't have your load to bear. Kerrriiist. I have heard of hindsight before, but you take the cake. No red herring here. I've been pointing out where you are wrong and where you have been lying and telling the real story. Here on the inside, where I sit, your arguments remain based on a false, baseless premise and assertions that you later repeatedly attempted to convert to a red herring. Never once admitting you were wrong or correcting yourself. It wasn't even a good try. You fail. Get your bag. The bus will return you to garrison where you will be issued travel funds to your old unit and receive a letter of commendation for attempting a course on terrorism. Good luck with your effort to rewrite history. Here I'll leave you one last SF tip. As long as you remain focused on others' performance and never examine your own efforts with an eye to improve, you are doomed to mediocrity or worse. Insisting you are right when you are wrong is part of that inability to get along with others thing. One of us got it. LOL
